I started riding at the age of ten. I would swap riding time, on anyone's horse, for mucking stalls or general care of their horse. I was pretty busy. My folks didn't have enough money to buy me a finished horse, so I ended up with a Welsh pony barely halter broke. I loved teaching her and pretty soon we were competing at the local riding stable. I didn't know it at the time, but she was really the teacher and I the student.
Just before high school, developers bought the ranch where I rode and my horse dreams were crushed. I went through high school, college at USC and a career with Bayer Pharmaceuticals, before I was able to bring horses back into my life.
In 1997, I bought a young Arabian I wanted to start under saddle myself. I attended clinics by Ray Hunt, Buck Brannaman, Harry Whitney, Mark Rashid and others. Luckily, that same year, I discovered Parelli Natural Horse-Man-Ship; I was hooked. It actually gave me a road map to achieve success with horses! After realizing my career was getting in the way of my horsemanship, I resigned to pursue my passion and teach Parelli Natural Horse-Man-Ship.
In 2001, I was awarded my Level 1 from Dave Ellis. Both my Level 2 and Level 3 were awarded by the International Study Center in Colorado. I have spent almost 11 months at the Colorado ISC, advancing my horsemanship. I became a licensed 2-Star Instructor in 2005.
